What is the difference between full and partial dentures?

full and partial dentures in North Dallas

At Dental Attraction, we offer our patients two different kinds of dentures. The first, full dentures, are what most people think of when they picture dentures. Shaped like a horseshoe, full dentures replace all of the teeth in either your lower or upper dental arch or both. Partial dentures, on the other hand, require some natural teeth to remain in your smile. Both full and partial dentures are made from prosthetic teeth attached to a gum-colored base that is worn comfortably over your gums. To see if dentures will work for your smile, we encourage you to contact our dental office and schedule your consultation with Dr. Rouhani. We look forward to taking care of and restoring your smile!

Who Is a Good Candidate for Dentures?

If you’re missing teeth in North Dallas, full or partial dentures might be just the solution you need. Most people who are missing most or all of their teeth are candidates for dentures. However, it’s a good idea to be free of any infection, like gum disease or cavities in your remaining teeth, before getting dentures placed. This might add a few weeks to the process of getting new teeth, but the wait will be well worth it.

Benefits of Dentures

Dentures in North Dallas come with a whole host of benefits, including:

  • Improving your self-esteem
  • Being easily removable for cleaning
  • Improving your ability to speak and chew
  • Being both functional and comfortable
  • Supporting your facial muscles to keep them from sagging
  • Being typically covered by most dental insurance plans

Implant-Retained Dentures

implant-retained dentures

Perhaps you’ve heard that traditional dentures can slip and slide around while speaking or eating. This can be the case for ill-fitting dentures. To prevent this problem, we offer dentures that are held in place with dental implants. We can place four to six dental implants strategically throughout the jaw to hold a set of full or partial dentures. Even patients who have undergone jawbone loss from missing teeth can receive implant-retained dentures, since the implants toward the back of the mouth are inserted at a 45-degree angle. Once the implants are placed and healed, we’ll fit you with a custom denture that can be either fixed or removable, depending on your preference.
